Rachael Perez

Since the age of 5, I’ve been on a stage. From wanting to be like my brother, to forging my own path in college (and now starting my post-college journey), I strive and continue to create, learn, and perform.
My family is musical, down to the bone. My mother started dance at 3 and was teaching by age 16. She continues to teach and collaborating with her is one of my favorite ways to spend time with her. She taught me that every space can be filled with dancing: kitchens, grocery store aisles, hallways, hiking trails, ski lodges, and living rooms. Every space benefits from some movement. Not only was dance a staple of growing up in my house, but hearing live music was as well. My dad has been playing guitar and singing since middle school, playing now in churches and with worship groups all over the Denver-Metro area.
My favorite collaborator, however, is my brother. Robert and I are incredibly close and he is what I can only describe as a “Renaissance Man” because of how multi-talented he is. He is an incredible artist, who pushes me and my art, and whom I can challenge with his as well. I’m the artist I am today because of him.
I love seeing the beauty in every breath, fighting for oppressed peoples (no one is free until all of us are free), listening to music that challenges my ear, collecting cool stickers, skiing, listening to vinyl records, watching movies, reading fantasy books, hammocking in the mountains, opening the blinds to let the natural light in, breathing in cold crisp air on a winter morning, committing to a good bit, and especially right now, Formula 1 racing.
